THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, September 26, 1935

L. E. Wadsworth, 53, and Flagler County's Representative in the 1935 state legislature, died in the Flagler Hospital Saturday evening at 6:30 after an illness of only a few days.

The body was buried in a cemetery at Hawthorne Monday afternoon with Craig's Funeral Home of St. Augustine in charge, while Rev. J. E. Jenkins, pastor of the Methodist church here and the Masons of Hawthorne conducted the last rites.

Surviving are his widow, four children, Billie 21, L. E. Jr., 19; Betty, 17, and Brady 12, all of whom live here, and one brother, G. P. Wadsworth of Hampton.

Mr. Wadsworth came to Flagler County with his family in 1928 from Hawthorne where he had lived nearly all of his life, having been born in Madison County. He purchased the St. Joseph Turpentine Company and operated it until his death.

When a young man he attended the old Florida Military Academy, a number of prominent Floridians living today were his classmates, among whom are Secretary of State R. A. Gray, Judge J. M. Andrews of Orlando and others.

Since coming to Flagler County he has been actively identified in the civic and political life of the community. Being persuaded by friends to enter the race for the state legislature in 1934, he polled more than 75 per cent of the votes cast for that office in the first primary.

Returning from his legislative duties at the state capitol, he received the commendation of the people of this county for his record of activities during that session, gaining additional friends for himself because of his, unfaltering efforts in behalf of his constituents.

The death of Mr. Wadsworth was a distinct shock to the entire county, and his passing will be mourned by all who knew him.
