DELAND - Charles F. Brown, 67, of Sky Lane, who retired as a Florida Highway Patrol corporal in 1998 after 39 years of service, died Friday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.

Mr. Brown, an Army veteran, was born in Bunnell. He moved to this area in 1966 from Fernandina Beach, where he began with the Highway Patrol, to be based in DeLand. He was a traffic homicide investigator for some time and received numerous commendations in his career. He also was a certified scuba diver and accomplished musician.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Carol; two daughters, Marilyn Macherion and Yvette Soden, and a stepdaughter, Donna Lingenfelter, all of DeLand; two brothers, Walton Kenney, Bunnell; and Richard Brown Jacksonville; two Sisters, Juanita Keen, Jacksonville, and Rita Gross, Dacula; Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral service for Charles "Charlie" Franklin Brown, 67, Sky United States lane, DeLand, who died Friday, December 6, 2002, will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, at Stetson Baptist Church, 1025 W. Minnesota Ave., DeLand. Calling hours are from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today (Tuesday, December 10) at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand.

Mr. Brown was born in Bunnell and moved to this area in 1966 from Fernandina Beach. He was a corporal in the Florida Highway Patrol with 39 years of service. He retired in 1998 and had numerous law enforcement affiliations. Mr. Brown served in the Army and was an accomplished musician.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Carol Brown, Deland; daughters, Marilyn Macherion and Yvette Soden, both of Deland; step-daughter, Donna Ligenfelter, DeLand; sisters, Juanita Keen, Jacksonville, and Rita Gross, Dacula, Ga.; and brothers, Richard Brown, Jacksonville, and Walton Kenney, Bunnell.
