Mary Jane Metts, 71, Hwy 100, Bunnell, went to see her Heavenly Father Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Halifax Medical Center after a sudden stroke.

Mary Jane was born to Rubin and Mary Jewel Edwards on June 25, 1939 in Bonita Springs, FL. Mary Jane moved to Flagler County where she attended and graduated from Bunnell High School. She met and later married the love of her life, Dewayne Metts November 8, 1957 and had three children. Mary Jane co-owned and operated the Metts Supermarket until it relocated in 1967. From 1967 until 1976 she co-owned and operated the Thriftway of Bunnell. In 1976 after semi-retiring Mary Jane took great pride in her husband and children traveling and attending her children's sporting events and activities.

Mary Jane went back to work for the Flagler County School System where she worked until she retired after 20+ years of faithful service. She was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Bunnell, teaching Sunday school classes for many years. She loved her Lord and took her faith seriously by tirelessly serving others in any way she could, most recently working with VBS, the food pantry and the bread ministry at church. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and spending time laughing with her family. Mary Jane was highly respected and loved by all that knew her. She had a gentle and loving spirit that showed through to all those she came in contact with and will be missed deeply.

Mary Jane was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Dewayne Metts and one brother, Clovis.

She is survived by her three children, Sandra Herr (Bob), Scott Metts, (Donna), Greg Metts (Denise); seven grandchildren, Stacey (Chris), Brian (Sarah), Sean, Taylor, Austin, Zoee, and Lainey; and had one great- grandchild on the way; her brothers, Roger Edwards (Ella Mae), and Kenneth Edwards (Mitzi); her dog, Buddy; and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 10AM at The First Baptist Church of Bunnell, 2301 Commerce Blvd., Bunnell, Burial will follow at Espanola Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd S., Flagler Beach. Memorial.
