Funeral services for Barbara A. Medders, 78, who passed away December 23, 2009 at Halifax Hospital, following a brief illness, will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 400 N. Palmetto St., Bunnell, FL 32110. Her family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm service time at the church. Burial will follow the service at Espanola Cemetery.

Mrs. Medders was born January 2, 1931 in Bunnell, FL, what she referred to as the "flat woods" behind what is now Flagler Palm Coast High School. She was a member of the Durrance family, a pioneer family in Flagler County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Medders. She was also preceded in death by her son, James and her mother, Lavada Pearl Woods, and her father, General Dewey Woods and her daughter-in-law, Sammie. She leaves to treasure her memory four sons, Jerry and Pat of Sims, Alabama; Jody, Bunnell; Joey, Bunnell; and Jerald and Debbie also of Bunnell; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mrs. Medders adored her sons and was fiercely protective of each and every one of them. The unconditional love she had for her family will never be surpassed. She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and always enjoyed surrounding herself with her family. Mrs. Medders enjoyed going to the beach, and collecting anything to do with the Indian Culture and she loved the great Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. She enjoyed for over 35 years visiting her native Indian friend, Chief Henry of Cherokee, North Carolina.
