BUNNELL - - Dean Holland, 68, 401 N Pine St., former Flagler County superintendent of public instruction, died Thursday at Bunnell General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

A native of Flagler County, Mr Holland had been administrator of Bunnell General Hospital and was a former superintendent of the WPA. In that capacity he built the Bunnel Civic Center, Flagler County Jail, Flagler Beach Boardwalk and the St Johns Park Community Center. He formerly had been a self employed timber producer.

Mr Holland was a 32nd degree Mason with Bunnell Lodge 200, F & AM, and was a member of Morocco Temple Shrine Club, and Bunnell First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Hazel; two sons, Cary, Bunnell; and Kent, Holly Hill; three sisters, Mrs Wilda Cobb and Mrs Margorie Robertson, both of Bunnell, and Mrs Oveida Giebert, now of Jacksonville; one brother, Zach, now of Jacksonville; and three grandchildren.

Dean Holland, 68,401 N. Pine St., Bunnell, member of a pioneer St. Johns Park family, died Thursday, at Bunnell General Hospital. Born in St. Johns Park, when that area was considered St. Johns County, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army, former timber producer, and a former Superintendent of WPA, he helped to build the Bunnell Civic Center, Flagler County Jail, Flagler Beach Boardwalk and the St. Johns Park Community Center. He is a former Flagler County Superintendent of Public Instruction, and former administrator of Bunnell General Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel, 2 sons, Cary, Bunnell and Kent, Holly Hill; three sisters, Mrs. Wilda Cobb, and Mrs., Marjorie Robertson, both of Bunnell, Mrs. Oveida Giebert, Jacksonville; 1 brother, Zachary G., Jacksonville; three grandsons, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bunnell First United Methodist Church with Rev. T. Shelton Brooks, assisted by Rev. Logan Whalen, officiating. Interment was in Espanola Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were J. A McDowall, Dalton Cobb, George Geibert III, Holland Geibert, D. C. Robertson, Jr., Zachary Holland, Jr., and Gregory Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers were Levi Brannam, John Canakaris, Eldon Knight, R. W. Deen, Jr., T. H. Frier, J. L. Crews, C.H. Cowart, John Hogan, Harold Emery, John Rice, P.A. Edmonson, Gene Barber, Clinton Dunn, M. C. Strickland, Jr., and Martin Harding.
