Obituary of John Brice Hosford Jr.

John “Brice” Hosford Jr. 74, of Bunnell passed away on November 29, 2019 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. He was born on April 16, 1945 in St. Augustine, Florida to the late John “Jack” and Claudine Hosford Sr.

He graduated from Bunnell High School in 1963 and then joined the US Air Force where he served during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge he farmed with his father for a year and then went to work for Louis Wadsworth Lumber for several years, he also served as a Flagler County Sheriff’s Deputy and served as mayor of Bunnell for several terms over the years.

In his later years he returned to his family’s roots in farming for Johnston Brothers Farms in Bunnell until his health forced him to retire.

His memberships included The Iron Flats Hunting Club and a life-time member of the Masonic Lodge #200 where he served as a past Master. Brice was happiest in the woods hunting or just enjoying nature but his greatest love in life was being with his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Claudine in 1977, his father “Jack”, in 2001, great-granddaughter, Bridgette Marie Sheeler in 2011; sister, Phyllis Hirsch in 2013.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Judy; children, Dawn (Dwayne) Taylor, John (Marjorie) Hosford, Robin (Jerry) Bradshaw; grandchildren, Dillon (Amber), Samantha (Brad), Claudia, Brice, (McKala), Hope (Colton), Jennifer, Victoria, Sierra, Calli, Amber, Austin; great-grandchildren, Amilynn, Chloe, Harper; brother-in-law, Bernie Hirschi, James (Doris) Arp and many more loving relatives and friends.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
