Robert "Doug" Schatz, age 74, of Oak Hill, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home, Daytona Beach. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Mr. Schatz, a security and fire alarm engineer, moved to Florida in 1952 and settled in Volusia County in 1965. He served in the United States Navy, was a member of Bella Vista Baptist Church in Edgewater, loved music, reading, computers, being with friends, talking, and his family.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joan; two sons, Douglas Dwayne (Brenda) Schatz, Greenville, South Carolina and Michael David (Jackie) Schatz, Groesbeck, Texas; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Schatz, Powder Springs, Georgia and Edward (Dale) Schatz; one sister, Marjorie (Harold) Guthrie, Palm Coast; and one sister-in-law, Dolores Schatz, Hammock, Florida.

Mr. Schatz was preceded in death by his brother, Jerrald Schatz.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at Bella Vista Baptist Church, 3232 S. Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, Florida 32141, with the Reverend Michael Schatz and Pastor John Marsh, officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida.
