Residents of this community were shocked to learn of the death of William Stanish, who passed away in the United States Naval hospital, Brooklyn, N. Y. last Sunday night at 8:55 P.M. At his bedside at the time were his mother and two brothers, Orby and John. His last moments were peaceful and he retained consciousness to the very end.
William Stanish was well known to the residents of Bunnell and surroundings. He was born in Herminie, Pa. and came to Bunnell with his parents at the age of nine. Here he completed his grammar and high school course, entering the United States Training base at Norfolk, Virginia, five years ago. Upon completing his first enlistment he re-enlisted in the service last June and was transferred to the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he had the rating of Third Class Pharmacist Mate.
After funeral services in the Chapel of the Navy Yard his remains were brought to Bunnell Thursday morning. Another service will be held in Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Korona, at ten A. M. Friday. After the service he will be interred in the Catholic Cemetery at St. Augustine.
The body will be buried with military honors. Through the assistance of the American Legion, a military guard will be at the grace and final military rites. The Rev. C. Hoffman, Pastor of St. Mary’s Church will conduct the service and deliver the eulogy.
The following schoolmates will act as pallbearers: G. L. Walker, Dale Brown, Jr., Clair Biddle, Johnny Mercer, Joy Deen and G. C. McArn.
William Stanish is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stanish of Bunnell and five brothers, Orbie of Richmond, Virginia, John of Norfolk, Va., Albert of Mansfield, Ohio, Paul of Bunnell and P. J. Stanish of St. Augustine, one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Powell of Pensacola.
Friends of the family extend their sympathy to all the bereaved family and regret the passing of a young man who was an honor to the community.
