As one of our young friends was receiving the last funeral rites beneath the spreading oaks of Ormond last Sunday, a grave and quietly moving carriage was bearing and older friend to the sandy slopes of a cemetery in Palatka.

The one a young man of affable manners, pleasing address, and just budding into young manhood; while the other had topped the summit of time, his shadow leaning eastward.

The sad, unexpected, and almost tragic, death of young Stuckey brought back to memory the days when I brought him in from the end of the brick to the little school in Bunnell. It also brought to memory the little couplet:

"Life is a delusion all; the future cheats us from afar,
We cannot be what we recall, and dare not look on what we are."
