Helen Varn Holton
Helen Varn Holton, affectionately known as "Honey" to family and friends, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2021. Helen, age 95, resided in Flagler Beach, Florida, and was a member of the Flagler Beach United Methodist Church. Helen was born in Daytona Beach on September 13, 1926 to Claude Grady Varn and Marjorie Boor Varn.
Following her mother's death during childbirth, Claude Varn married Mary Belle Barber Varn, who adopted his five children and reared them with love. In 1944, Helen graduated from Ketterlinus High School in St. Augustine. She attended the University of Alabama, and joined Delta Gamma Sorority.
In 1948, Helen married James Samuel "Jim" Holton at Grace Methodist Church in St. Augustine. While Jim attended UF Law School in Gainesville. Helen worked in the UF Registrar's Office. Upon graduation, they moved back to St. Augustine where he practiced law, and where their three children were born. Helen worked at the Abstract Company and was an active member of the Junior Service League. Later, they moved to Polk County, where Helen became a successful real estate broker. In 1985, she was named to the Million Dollar Club, Lakeland Board of Realtors.
Upon retirement, Helen and Jim moved to Flagler Beach, located close to St. Augustine, where Helen's heart never left. Helen remained active during retirement with the Gardens Club and Women's Exchange of St. Augustine. She also enjoyed weekly breakfast meetings with old friends in the KHS Mullet Club. Helen was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed the company of friends and family. Her positive attitude, caring spirit, and winning smile enriched the lives of all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Varn King of Bunnell; daughter, Mary Helen Arbogast of Palm Beach Gardens; son, James Holton and wife, Chris, of Safety Harbor; daughter, Marjorie Cammann and husband, Bill, of St. Petersburg; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, James Holton; her parents, Claude Varn, Marjorie Boor Varn, and Mary Belle Varn; her sisters, Marjorie Varn Leonard and Corise P. Varn, Commander, USNR (retired); and her brother, Wilfred Claude Varn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Craig Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Highway, St. Augustine, Florida.
