Marilyn Varn King
December 9, 1923 – March 22, 2023

Marilyn Varn King, age 99, of Bunnell, Florida passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

She was born in Deland, Florida to Claude Grady Varn and Marjorie Boor Varn. Her father, a Florida native, was a pioneer developer in Flagler County. In 2015 she with her brother and sisters donated a parcel of beach property to the Flagler County which was developed for public use as Varn Park.

During World War II, she traveled to Washington DC with her sister, Corise Varn, where she worked for the War Department. She married Raymond Francis Colee of St. Augustine, and had a son, Robert Raymond Colee, and a daughter, Lydia Janice Colee. She worked at a number of positions, the most notable as a Professional Secretary for many years at the Brundick Company in Jacksonville.

After the passing of Raymond Colee, for the second time in her life, she fell in love. She reconnected with an old schoolmate from Bunnell High School, Joseph Larrimore King. They married and she moved to Bunnell where she spent the rest of her life.

She was a long-time member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Joseph Eggleston Johnston chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy. She served as Florida Division President of UDC from 1996 through 1998. Because of her dedicated work for scholarships, she was appointed a lifetime Honorary President General position in the national organization. She attended First Methodist Church of Bunnell, where she served as a trustee.

She has gone to her next adventure and will meet her father, her mother, her stepmother, Maribelle Barber Varn, both her much loved husbands, her brother Wilfred Varn, her sisters Corise Varn, Helen Holton, Marjorie Leonard, and her son Thomas King.

She is survived by her sons Robert Raymond Colee, Dennis “Bo” King, her daughter Lydia Colee Filzen and daughters-in-law Anne Rodes Colee, Ronee King and Gaye Anne King. She also loved her grandchildren Sean Candler Colee, Jennifer Ann Filzen, Tanya Colee, Micah Colee, Shelley King, Sarah King, Colter King, and her great grandchildren.

With gratitude we acknowledge the service of her loving caregivers of the past few years, Chantale Simon, Terri Price Marie Josma and Ernide Douzable.
