Daisy W. Moody, 65, a retired Fairfax County school teacher who taught 22 years at Mount Vernon Woods Elementary School, died of cancer Oct. 9 at her home in Fairfax.
Mrs. Moody was born in Bunnell, Fla. She graduated from Florida State University. She was a teacher in Florida before moving to the Washington area in 1965. She joined the Mount Vernon Woods faculty that year and retired in 1987.
She served on the boards of directors of the Fairfax County Education Association, the Virginia Education Association and the National Education Association, and she was the faculty representative of her school.
In the 1960s she worked for the merger of the Virginia Education Association with the Virginia Teachers Association, which represented teachers at the state's black segregated schools.
Mrs. Moody was a bird-watcher, camper and sailor.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Moody of Fairfax; a daughter, K. Lee Moody of Alexandria; her mother, Ethel Lee Whitaker of Bunnell; and three sisters, Wanda Mercer of Bunnell, Samuela Friedman of Deland, Fla., and Mary Louie Fleetwood of San Mateo, Fla.
