Walter John Wilkins III, 57, of Danville, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013.

Born Sept. 4, 1956, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Lucille Buono Wilkins. He was a nuclear engineering instructor with the Parsons Co. Walter was an active member of First Church of God on Harrodsburg Road and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a hunter, and he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Wilkins.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Karol Strevels Wilkins of Danville; a stepson, Shaun (Laurie) Belcher of Danville; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth (Jamie) Moreland of Danville and Joanna (Chris) Searcy of Harrodsburg; a sister, Julie (John) Applebee of Lubuc, Maine; six grandchildren, Megan Cushing, Max Searcy, Lilly Moreland, Danielle Moreland, Evan Moreland and Ellie Kate Searcy; and a great-grandchild, Salem Isaac Searcy.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of God, Harrodsburg Road. The Rev. Mike Cox will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Greg Begley, Darrin Early, Tim Carmen, Gerry Collett, Flo Morlate, Ken Warren and Arnold Johnson. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Thomas C. Jackson.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery. The family suggests donations to the Diabetes Foundation.
