FUNERAL SERVICES FOR D. D. DEEN

Funeral services for D. D. (Took) Deen, 60, prominent farmer and naval stores operator who died Sunday night at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness, were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Red Oak Baptist Church.

The Rev. Martin Carter and the Rev. Dorris Black officiated. Interment was in the Deen Cemetery, Strickland Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were Emmett Deen, George Deen, Homer Taylor, Ernest Vaughn, Leroy Bowen and Millard Boatright.

Mr. Deen was born and lived his entire life in Appling county. He was a former trustee of Red-Oak School, a former member of the Appling County Board of Education, a member of the Methodist Church and Holmesville Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith Miles Deen, Jacksonville, Fla.; six sons, Herbert L. Deen of Baxley. Louie Deen, U. S. Army, Quinton, Grady, Downing D. Jr., and James E. Deen, all of Jacksonville; four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Fowler of Waycross, Mrs. Merle Morehouse and Miss Dorothy Deen of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Frankie Blanton of Savannah.

Also surviving are two brothers, Adolph Deen of Valdosta, and John Upchurch of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ireland and Mrs. Alma Dent Orlando; and eight grandchildren

D. D. (Took) Deen of Baxley, Ga., died at nine o'clock Sunday evening in the Alma hospital following an illness of' several years.

Mr. Deen, who was a brother of Adolph Deen, resided here during the early development of Bunnell and was employed with a turpentine firm.

He is survived by his wife, six sons and four daughters; a brother and a sister; and one half-brother and a half-sister. Also surviving is an uncle, George Moody of Flagler Beach.

Funeral services were held in Baxley Tuesday afternoon.
