HON. HENRY DEEN, OLDEST CITIZEN DIES
Hon Henry Deen, probably the oldest man in Appling County, died at his home in Baxley on Friday evening at nine o'clock after only a few days of illness.
Mr. Deen was born in the county in January 1825. He was thrice married; first to Miss Elizabeth Stevens, second to Miss Nancy Miles; his third wife was Mrs. Malissa Eason Kramer, all of Appling County. He was the father of twenty children, and reared three orphans. He spent his entire life in this county. He united with the Methodist Church in early young manhood, and was a member of F & AM for sixty years.
He was a man "in whom there was no guile," noble, honest and unassuming, philanthropic and kind, and one of wealth and quite influence.
The entire county grieves to give up this venerable old gentleman. He leaves a large family circle.
His wife and eleven children survive him, among whom are Mrs. B W Taylor and Mrs. Leonard Miles of this city.
The New-Banner extends condolences to his wife and relative throughout the country.
