JOHN C MERCER, FARMER, DIES, AGE FIFTY YEARS. LEAVES AND ESTATE VALUED AT ABOUT TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS...SURVIVED BY THREE SONS AND FOUR DAUGHTERS

John C. Mercer, well known farmer died at his home in the Deen District on Tuesday, December 21 at four o'clock of intestinal influenza. His body was buried in the Deen Cemetery on Wednesday at 2:30 o'clock, Rev J M Hancock, pastor of Baxley circuit churches officiating.

Mr. Mercer was the son of William Mercer and was born in this county about fifty years ago. He was married to Miss Jennie Deen, daughter of Henry Deen and Nancy Miles Deen. He is survived by three sons and four daughters all of whom reside in this county. His wife passed away about five years ago.

Mr. Mercer was a member of the Methodist Church, his membership at Hopewell Church. He leaves a farm and personal property valued at about eight thousand dollars, besides probably several thousand dollars on deposit in one of the county banks.

He spent his entire life in the county and was an excellent citizen, a good neighbor and friend. His death is mourned by hundreds of friends and relatives in this county.
