CARL MILES KILLED BY FLORIDA TRAIN

E. C. Miles, eldest and only son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Miles of Baxley, met a horrible death on Friday night, February 28th, near his home at Dupont, FL while attempting to alight from a swiftly moving East Coast train. He was thrown violently to the ground, sustaining injuries that resulted in almost instant death. The body of the dead man was discovered by a freight train conductor three hours later and carried to his home where an investigation revealed the fact that both arms had been broken, his legs and head badly bruised and that he had internal injuries.

Mr. Miles had only recently left Baxley to accept a position with a large sawmill firm at Dupont. He was born and reared in Appling County where he has a large family connection and a wide circle of friends. He was a most excellent young man and his tragic death caused universal sorrow.

Deceased was twenty-three years of age and leaves a young wife and two small children. Mrs W. C. Parker of Baxley and Mrs. Martin of this county are his sisters.

His remains were brought to Baxley Sunday night and buried in the Miles Cemetery near the Miles Bridge.
