Flagler County Resident Killed In Car Accident

George Allen, 68, prominent farmer, cattleman and turpentine operator of Flagler County, was fatally injured last night when his automobile, in which he was riding alone, skidded on wet pavement on new Highway No. 11, running into a marsh near a bridge.

Sheriff W. H. Wells of Bunnell said that the car and Mr. Allen's body were discovered by K. Knight of Bunnell who passed in his car shortly after the accident.

Mr. Wells maintains homes in Bunnell and Flagler Beach and the accident happened within a half­ mile of his Flagler Beach home. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock in the Bunnell Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Murdock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Espanola Cemetery with the Haigh and Brooks Funeral Home of Daytona Beach in charge.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife Mrs. Nell Allen, Bunnell and Flagler Beach; three daughters, Mrs. Ida Powell, McIntosh; Mrs. Louise Durshimer, Albany, Ga.; Mrs. Ria Johnston, Bunnell; a son George Allen, Jr., Bunnell: and a brother-in-law, John McIntosh, Bunnell.

Flagler: George E. Allen Killed In Car Accident

George E. Allen, 68, prominent Flagler County resident, died last night 20 minutes after the car he was driving apparently skidded about 75 feet to a marshy area near Flagler Beach and overturned, Sheriff W. H. Wells reported. There were no other passengers in the car.

“It looked as if Allen put on his breaks to slow up for the Flagler Beach Bridge,” the Sheriff said. “He was thrown from the car and pinned beneath it until the car rolled off him.” he added.

According to Allen's brother-in­law and associate, John N. McIntosh, he was about a half mile from his summer home in Flagler Beach when the accident occurred at 7:30 p. m.

Allen was a native of Cedar Town, Ga., and lived in Flagler County since 1919. He was a former Flagler County commissioner, cattleman, farmer and turpentine man. He was a Methodist and a resident of Bunnell.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Ellen; three daughters, Mrs. Ida Powell McIntosh; Mrs. Louise Durshimer, Albany, Ga.; Mrs. Ria Johnston, Bunnell; one son, George E. Allen, Jr., and five grandchildren.

His body was brought to Daytona Beach in a Craig, Inc. ambulance, of St. Augustine. Haigh and Brooks is in charge.

Services for George E. Allen, prominent Flagler County resident who died last night when his auto overturned, will be at 1 p. m. tomorrow at Bunnell Methodist Church. Rev. R. H. Carr will offi­ciate, assisted by Rev. Herman B. Murdock. Friends may view the body at the church from 11:30 a. m. tomorrow until the time of the services.

Pallbearers will include: K. K. Knight, H. T. Cook. D. B. Brown, D. D. Moody, L. E. Wadsworth, J. F. Gresham. Burial will be at Espanola Cemetery, Haigh and Brooks is in charge.
