THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, May 23 1935

Passing of the pioneer settlers of this section of Florida continues, and this week we record the death of J. J. Buckles, who lived all of his 75 years in this section of Florida, having been born, however in Jacksonville.

Mr. Buckles died early Sunday morning after having been struck down by paralysis several weeks before. His death was expected, yet it was a shock to his relatives and many friends in the St. Johns Park section and all of Flagler County.

He was the father of nine boys and one girl, all of whom reside in Flagler County. They are John, George, Luke, Clyde, Clarence, Arthur and Raiford, Raymond and Harold. The daughter is Mrs. Mae Malphurs, who recently lost her husband in like manner.

Also surviving is his widow, one brother, J. S. Buckles of Barberville, Volusia County, 28 grand- children and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held and interment made at Espanola Cemetery Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. E. Jenkins, pastor of the Methodist church here, officiating.

Pallbearers were Jesse Carlisle, Harold McAlexander, Carl Robinson, Eddie Pellicer, Bill Ruth and Z. G. Holland.
