Mrs. Mattie Jane Deen, wife of R. W. Deen, Sr., died in the Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine at six o'clock Wednesday evening, following a long illness.

She suffered a stroke three years ago and from which she never fully recovered. Her condition became worse on Wednesday of last week and she was admitted to the hospital. Her condition had been critical since Friday.

Mrs. Deen, who would have been 78 years old this month, was a native of Georgia but had resided in Flagler County about 45 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Bunnell.

Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Donnella D. Chastain, and one son, R. W. Deen, Jr., all of Bunnell. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Patricia Deen, Sandra Deen and Caldeen Chastain of' Bunnell.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
