Howard Michael Emery, 73, of Espanola, died Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at home. He was the son of the late David Harold Emery and Grace Lord Emery, also of Espanola.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie Emery; a brother, Quentin Emery (Carol Lynda) of Bunnell; sisters, Beverly Emery of Bunnell and Kathryn Rich of Providence; a son, David Emery (Sandy) of Bunnell; daughters, Tracey Barnett (Mark) of Cape Coral, Melissa Mondello (Keith) of Palm Coast, and Amber Mayhew (Sean) of Live Oak; a step-daughter, Martha Bucholtz (Bill) of Okeechobee; 14 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 9 step-great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Celia Joyce Oliver.

He was a 1964 graduate of Bunnell High School where he played the trumpet in the marching band. He was also a former member of the Espanola Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as firefighter/EMT for many years.

He enjoyed farming, carpentry, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He was native of Flagler County and loved discussing local history. He was a genealogist and historian with a vast knowledge of the tri-county area. He knew the back trails of Flagler, Putnam and St. John’s counties and the people who lived there.

He had a really good memory, liked to do good deeds and make people feel good. He never met a stranger and kept in touch with his classmates over the years. Relationships were important to him and he would often take the time to call and talk to friends and relatives to check on them.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Advent Health Palm Coast Foundation, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164.

A private, graveside service is planned.
