Daniel C. Johnston, Sr.

Johnston Sr. passed away in his home, from natural causes on September 5, 2011 Danny, the son of Ernest Walton Johnston Sr., and Mabel Johnston was born in Bunnell on September 7, 1927.

He was one of the founding families that pioneered Flagler County. He attended Bunnell High School and then joined the Navy during World War II. After his time in the service, he met his wife and mother of his children, Madeline Moore, started a farm and raised cabbage and taters. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Madeline passed away in 1988.

After his retirement in 1992, the only decision he wanted to make in life was "Do I use a Big Hook or a Small Hook on my line?"

He met and married Dora "Dodie" Flynt in 1995. They traveled & fished a lot until she passed away in 2009.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Bunnell; Bunnell VFW Post 5213; DAV; and Sons of the Confederacy.

He is survived by his three sons; Daniel C. Johnston Jr. (Gina); Jeffrey S. Johnston; Raymond W. Johnston; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and Judy McNitt, Flagler Beach his caregiver, who was more like a daughter, for the last years of his life.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday Sept. 17, at the Bunnell Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Vitas Hospice.
