G. C. Layton, Sr., of Bunnell, died at the local hospital early Friday morning after a short illness.
He was a native of Georgia and had lived in Flagler County over 40 years. He was engaged in the turpentine and mercantile business many years before retiring about 10 years ago. He was 73 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Stella Layton, Bunnell; one daughter, Mrs. Eula Bennett of Jesup, Ga.; a son, G. C. Layton, Jr., Bunnell; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Miller, Attala, Ala.; Miss Eula Layton and Miss Jennie Layton of Hilliard, Fla.; two brothers, John S. Layton of St. Petersburg, and J. L. Layton of Callahan. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Nolan Layton Bennett and Elsie Yvonne Bennett of Jesup.
Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church of Bunnell at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. Thomas Pinner, officiating. Arrangements were under direction of Craig Funeral Home of Bunnell. Interment followed in the Espanola Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Earl Rice, C. B. Eisenbach, Duane Deen, Gene Barber, J. R. Shelton, and William Deen. Honorary pallbearers were D. D. Moody, Henry Wells, R. H. Cantrell, Clyde Lewis, Rob Deen and Otis Hunter.
