THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, November 6, 1930
Johnnie, 2 1/2 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Rice, while walking along Dixie Highway near her home Saturday, was struck by an automobile driven by Rev. J. S. Lester of West Palm Beach. The child ran into the street and was struck down by a rear fender of the automobile. Rev. Lester was exonerated of blame by eye witnesses, one of whom was the father of the child.
Dr. L. A. Carter was called immediately after the accident and after examining the child it was carried to Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, where two blood transfusions were made in an effort to save her life but without avail, death occurring at 9:30 Sunday evening.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the First Baptist church here, Rev. J. M. DeVette, pastor, officiating. Burial was made at Espanola cemetery later that afternoon.
Rev. Mr. Lester formerly resided in Muskogeon, Michigan, and was at one time pastor of the Baptist church there where Rev. DeVette was a member.
Rev. DeVette was the officiating minister at the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Rice while Rev. DeVette was stationed in Seminole county several years ago. He also baptized Mr. Rice when he became a member of the church.
