Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 from the First Baptist Church here for H. R. Whitaker, former sheriff of this county.

Mr. Whitaker, 61 years of age, died Tuesday at his home in San Mateo after an illness of several years. Burial will be in Espanola Cemetery with Bunnell Masonic Lodge in charge of the last rites. W. Carl Davis and Son of Palatka are in charge of arrangements

Mr. Whitaker was born in Gordon, Ala., and moved to Florida in 1923. He was a former chief of police in Auburndale and Bunnell, and was elected sheriff of Flagler County, serving from 1932 to 1936.

Later Mr. Whitaker engaged in the turpentine, dairy and cattle business.

Surviving are the widow and two daughters, Mrs. S. J. Tilton and Mrs. Clyde Deen of San Mateo; a brother, J. A. Whitaker of Lake Wales, and several grandchildren.
