JOSEPH ABATE, 79, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Lyndhurst, died Monday. Before retiring, he owned a candy store. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a parishioner of Mother Seton Catholic Church. 

Surviving are his wife, Maria Capaccio Abate: two sons, Joseph, Jr. of Lyndhurst and George of Wayne; two sisters, Grace Marigliano and Lucy Benedict, both of Lyndhurst; a brother Sam of Wayne, and a grandson. 

Services and burial will be in Florida, with arrangements by Craig Funeral Home, Bunnell, Fla.
