Funeral services for Kenneth W. Bates, 71, of Palm Coast will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road S. Flagler Beach. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the time of services. Interment will follow in Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bates, a resident of this area since 1980 coming from Palm Beach County, FL, passed away on Monday March 23, 2009 in Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach. He was born in Sharon PA, November 29, 1937 a son of the late Glenn M. and Nina Poorbaugh Bates.

He was a retired circulation manager for the Daytona News Journal and a former employee of the Palm Beach Post. A veteran serving in the U.S. Army National Guard, Mr. Bates was a member of the Moose Lodge in Bunnell FL, the Elks Lodge of Palm Coast FL and the American Legion. He enjoyed cooking, NASCAR Racing, and being the softball coach for his daughter.

Surviving are his daughter, Julie Bates, of S. Daytona; two sisters, Helen Babione of Boca Raton FL, and Ruth Olsson of Jupiter FL; his companion, Linda Hohaus of Palm Coast; two step-daughters, Brenda of Jupiter FL and Wendy of Palm Coast; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. #300, Daytona Beach FL.
