Robert J. Benes, a longtime resident of Palm Coast, died in San Diego, Calif. on November 4, 2007. He was 91 years old.

Bob, who retired to Palm Coast in 1978 and lived there 28 years, was a former vice president of Hexacon Electric Co. in Roselle Park, N.J. Prior to that, he worked for many years for General Cable Corp., both in its corporate headquarters in New York and as president of its subsidiary, General Pole & Cross Arm in Palatka, Fla.

Born and raised in Chicago, Bob graduated from the University of Chicago in 1938, and earned his J.D. from its law school in 1940. He was an associate editor of the Law Review. He moved to Washington, D.C., during the war years where he served in the Office of Price Administration.

Survivors include a son, Richard H., San Diego; daughter, Terry Benes, New York, N.Y.; sister, Lorraine Dieskow, Burr Ridge, Ill.; and granddaughter, Savannah Benes, San Diego.

Sherry, his wife of 53 years, died in Palm Coast in 1997.

Friends are invited to attend a crypt side service at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m., December 15, 2007.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Flagler County Humane Society.
