Douglas L. Bentley
A funeral Mass celebrating the life of Douglas L. Bentley, Sr. 83, of Palm Coast will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Holy Dormition Byzantine Catholic Church in Ormond Beach. Friends may visit on Sunday, November 27, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00PM in the chapel of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, Flagler Beach. Interment will follow the Mass at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Mr. Bentley a former Supervisor of Computer Services for Broome County, NY died on Thursday, November 17, 2011. He was born in Binghamton, NY and moved to Palm Coast, FL in 1986. Mr. Bentley graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1947. He also attended Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College and Broome Community College. He served in Korea with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Holy Dormition Byzantine Catholic Church, the VFW Post 8696, the American Legion Post 115, the Garden Club of Palm Coast, the USO, the NRA and the CSEA. Mr. Bentley was very active in politics and was a member of the Flagler County Republican Club, the Republican Party of Florida and a member of the Republican National Committee.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Bentley, and his beloved wife Mary Bentley just a few weeks ago on Oct 21, 2011.
Survivors include his son, Colonel Douglas L. Bentley, Jr., US Army; daughter-in-law, Melissa Bentley; grandson, Douglas L. Bentley III; granddaughter, Katherine Bentley; sister-in-law, Lillian Pochily and her husband Bernard and many other family members.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in his memory to the USO or Vitas Hospice.
Services are in the care and trust of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
