Guillermo “Bernie” Bernard Sr. 79, of Palm Coast passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit on Friday from 10:00am until time of the service at the church.
Guillermo was born on May 25, 1931 in Bocas del Toro, a providence of the Republic of Panama. He was the son of the late George Bernard and Lilia Barret. Guillermo was educated in Panama and worked for the Panama Canal Zone Provision Department. He was always very entertaining and played the drums in a popular band, as well as dance on stage in theaters.
He met Julia in school and later married her; they both migrated to the USA in 1957. He worked for Merrill Lynch Inc. as a purchasing agent on Wall Street. The company relocated to Jacksonville, FL in 1993 where he worked until he retired in 1996. Guillermo “Bernie” was friendly with everyone and loved taking photos and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Julia Bernard, sons, Orlando and Guillermo Bernard; sisters, Margaret Rose, Evelyn Bernard, Hilderine Smith, Mary Robinson; brother, Alfred Bernard; grandchildren, Gregory and Samantha Bernard; great-grandchildren, K’maya and Anaya Bernard.
Services are in the care and trust of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
