Carmen Aida Bryant, 66, loving wife of Barry Bryant, died on March 11, 2009, at Flagler Hospital.
Born on July 30, 1942, in Comerio, Puerto Rico, Carmen moved to Illinois in 1945 with her parents, Carmen and Albert Bohrer, and graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1960.
Carmen graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she and Barry met, in 1964, and they were married in 1966. They had two children, Paul and Sara. Over the years they lived in Panama City, Panama; Kansas City, Mo.; Cincinnati, Ohio; St. Simons Island, Ga.; Ponte Vedra, Fla.; and Guntersville, Ala., before retiring in St. Augustine in 2006.
Carmen taught Spanish and, most recently, English as a Second Language in Albertville, Ala. Carmen's many passions included teaching, the arts and acting.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Carmen is survived by her grandson, Cameron Paul Bryant Mara; her son-in-law, Joe Mara; her daughter-in-law, Carla Bryant; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Helen Bryant; her siblings, Francisco A. Del Valle Rivera, Jose Ramon Del Valle Rivera, Ruben A. Del Valle Rivera and Luz A. Del Valle Rivera; and her cousin, Anna Rivera.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on March 28, 2009, at Craig Flagler Palm Funeral Home in Flagler Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to a fund established in Carmen's honor that will be available for the various needs of the children that Carmen taught in Albertville. Please send checks to the Albertville Public Schools Foundation, 107 West Main St., Albertville, AL 35950, and in the memo section of the check, designate "In Memory of Carmen Bryant."
