Monica Ena Louise Britton, 83, of Palm Coast, Florida, departed this life peacefully on June 10, 2017 at Florida Hospital Flagler. She was born July 30, 1933 in Harry Watch, Manchester Jamaica, West Indies to the late Advira and Horatio Green.
She attended the Harry Watch Primary School where she passed the Third Year Exams and then left for Kingston. In Kingston, she worked as a Conductress with the Jamaica Omnibus Service. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Frank Britton in 1955.
Monica migrated to England in 1961 where she studied and worked as a nurse. She then returned to Jamaica in 1965 and worked at the Spanish Town General Hospital and in 1967 she migrated to New York.
She gained her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science Degrees in Nursing at Hunter College and was ultimately the Regional Nursing Director for the New York Health Department with a special focus on Maternal and Children's health.
Monica dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age and travelled worldwide with her late husband Frank to world conferences and conventions in the promotion of missions. Ministry and missionary outreach was dear to her heart. She was always ready to help the hurting, the least and anyone who was in need. Throughout her life, she placed special emphasis and interest in ensuring that education was one of the most important keys to success, especially within family.
Monica retired on October 28, 2000 and relocated to Palm Coast, Florida. Shortly after, Frank fell ill and she lovingly nursed him until his passing April 6, 2010. Thereafter, even though sad at times, she continued to enjoy the outdoors as she had a passion for gardening. She also enjoyed watching baseball (the New York Yankees her favorite team), and traveling. Visits with and from family and friends was delightful, therapeutic, and gratifying to her. Monica was a good listener, a peace maker but feisty, a confidant and one of the most beautiful person to be amongst. She was amusing, and her smile and soft words could change any bad situation into a good one. The love and compassion she shared will remain in the hearts of those whose lives she touched in special ways.
She is survived by brother George Green (England), sisters Evadnie Smith "Gem" (Miami) and Donnette Wright and her husband Wesley Wright (Jamaica), nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces, great grandnephews, great-great grandnieces, great-great grand nephews and a host of other dear friends both national and international.
