BROOKS, REV. T. SHELTON, SR. ­ Funeral Services for Reverend T. Shelton Brooks Sr., beloved father who passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at his home in Bunnell, will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bunnell, 301 E. Moody Blvd, Bunnell, Fla. Interment will follow the service at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens, Flagler Beach, Fla. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. South, Flagler Beach, Fla.

Rev. Brooks was born on December 2, 1914 in Bostwick, Florida to the late Alfred and Mattie (Burris) Brooks. He came to what would become, two years later, Flagler County when he was a year old. Reverend Brooks was trained as a mechanic and for many years was owner and operator of the Lake Terrace Garage and S. Brooks & Son Shell Service in Bunnell.

After being called to the ministry he was pastor of Providence Baptist Church, Barden, Florida and the Hammocks Baptist Church. Rev. Brooks also was active in the Mission Field and started several missions in Flagler County that became the First Baptist Church of Palm Coast, Community Baptist Church, Korona, and Westside Baptist Church in Western Flagler County and served as the first pastor of those three churches.

Rev. Brooks was also an educator who taught Gasoline Engines at Crescent City High School and beginning in 1972 was Vocational Guidance Counselor for Bunnell High School and then Flagler-Palm Coast High School until his retirement in 1985.

Reverend Brooks was a World War II veteran of the Army Corps of Engineers serving in the 691st Base Equipment Company in the China-Burma-India Theatre of Operations. He was Hon­orably Discharged in 1946 after hav­ing served as Company First Sergeant.

Rev. Brooks was a Past Master of Bunnell Lodge #200, serving as the Master of the Lodge in 1952 and 1964. He was also Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #92 and a founding mem­ber of the Flagler County Shrine Club serving as its President in 1956. He also served as District Deputy Grand Master, District Instructor, Grand Standard Bearer, and Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Florida. He was a 32nd degree-Scottish Rite Mason and a York Rite Mason. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bunnell.

Reverend Brooks was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Lucille R. Brooks. He is survived by his daughter and son-in­law, Dr. Zelda B. Carner and Dr. Richard Carner of Elkton, Fla.; and his son, Thomas S. (Chip) Brooks, Jr. of Homestead, Fla.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

BUNNELL - The Rev. T. Shelton Brooks, 92, who retired in 1985 as a vocational guidance counselor for Bunnell High School and then Flagler-Palm Coast High School, died Saturday at home.

Rev. Brooks, who served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, was born in Bostwick. He moved to this area in 1916 from Putnam County.

He was also pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church of Palm Coast, Community Baptist Church of Korona, and Westside Baptist Church of Bunnell.

Rev. Brooks was a member of First Baptist Church of Bunnell, a lifetime member of the Morocco Temple, Jacksonville, lifetime member and past master of Bunnell Masonic Lodge 200, past grand chaplain of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Florida and past patron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 93, Bunnell. He enjoyed reading, woodworking and yard work.

Survivors include a son, Thomas "Chip" Jr., Homestead; and a daughter, Zelda Carner, Elkton.
