Emery "Nick" W. Bythwood, 90, Palm Coast

Family and friends are "In a Sentimental Mood" as this beloved husband, father and grandfather "takes the A Train" for the last time. Born in Cuthbert, GA, the loving son of Vera and David Bythwood, Sr. Predeceased by brothers David and Daniel, and sister, Helen.

Known to those who loved him as Nick or Pop, he served as a technician in the US Army Quartermaster Truck Co. 4103rd and received a WWII Victory Medal. He was a devoted and longtime serviceman with the NYC Department of Sanitation. Nick was an avid music lover, particularly jazz, often moonlighting as a DJ at parties, and known for his fun-loving generosity, passion to serve his community, insatiable sweet tooth, and hearty laugh.

Nick had returned to Florida to retire in the early 1990s. He was a member of First AME Church of Palm Coast where he served as an usher until he suffered the first of two serious strokes.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 34 years, Frances Bythwood, in 2012.

Although not biological, Nick proudly stood in as a cherished father to Donna Adams and her husband, Randy, and grandfather to her children, Danielle and Randy II. His contribution as a man in the lives of those he loved proved more valuable than words could ever express.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be sent to benefit Concord Loving Care, 13 Pope Ln, Palm Coast, 32164, or the American Heart Association at donatenow.heart.org for the benefit of stroke survivors and prevention.
