Obituary of George D. 'Judd' Canty Sr.

George “Judd” Canty, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother passed away peacefully on May 5, 2018. Judd was born on June 18, 1922 in Boston MA to J. Paul and Mary V Canty. Judd was one of twelve siblings.

During World War II, Judd served honorably in the US Navy in the Pacific arena. Upon his discharge, he was selected to be a Massachusetts State Trooper. It was during this time, that he met his bride of 67 years, Barbara “Bobbe” Hurkett. They moved to Wakefield MA where they raised 4 sons. Judd retired from the State Police after 25 years’ service as a Staff Sargent.

He spent his second career as a Claims Investigator for Kemper Insurance in MA. Upon retirement from Kemper, Judd and Bobbe moved to Palm Coast FL where they spent the next 27 years playing golf and thoroughly enjoying life together.

Judd was preceded in death by his wife Bobbe and his oldest son, Dennis.

He is survived by his sister, Joan Bravo of Boca Raton FL, his three sons and their wives, Richard Canty and his wife Elizabeth of Moraga CA, Stephen Canty and his wife Rita of Saint Augustine FL, and Bruce Canty and his wife Robyn of Ellington CT, 11 grandchildren, Kristen Canty, Pete Canty, Lauren Canty-Constantiner, Alexandra Canty, Kate Canty, Shauna Canty, Jillian Thomas, Clayburne Bridge, Shane Canty, Ian Canty and Brogan Canty, two great grandchildren, Brynn Thomas and Carter Dennis Canty.

The family gives it most sincere appreciation to Harbour Chase Assisted Living of Jacksonville and Community Hospice, McGraw Center for their incredible support.

To the man who defined uncompromised love of family and friends, you will be missed. Rest in Peace, Judd. You have earned it.
