A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of George M. Carpetto, 65, of Palm Coast, formely of Gainesville who passed away on Monday, August 13, 2007 at his home will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007, 11:00 AM at Santa Maria de Mar Catholic Church, 915 Central Ave., Flagler Beach. Entombment will follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.

Friends may visit on Wednesday, August 15, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach.

Dr. Carpetto was born on September 3, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY. He earned a Ph.D in Renaissance Literature from Rutgers University in 1973 and a M.A, in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University in 1993. He taught at several universities, most recently at St. Leo University and the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Carpetto also authored several books including Breakthroughs in Six Brief Psychotherapies and Interviewing and Brief Therapy Strategies: An Integrative Approach just released August 10.

He is a member of Santa Maria de Mar Catholic church and the Mike Accardi Lodge of the Order of the Sons of Italy (OSIA). As past Cultural Chair of the Grand Lodge of OSIA, Dr. Capretto initiated and edited the book Italian Americans of the 20th Century: From the Same Vine. He was the co-founder and first president of the Greater Gainesville Lodge of OSIA. His passion was learning, teaching, writing, movies, and enjoying the ocean and all God’s creatures.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Diane Evanac. Additional survivors include his daughter, Maria and her husband Chris Kennedy and their children Blake and Jordan of Apex, NC; his son, George, and his wife Misty Carpetto, and their dauther Carly of Raleigh, NC; his brother Victor and his wife Millie Carpetto of Brooklyn, NY; Andrew and Cristina Hinson of Hollywood, FL.
