Marcus L. Chalfinch, 68, passed away Wednesday night at 10:15 in Halifax District Hospital in Daytona Beach after being stricken with a heart attack at his home Tuesday night.

Born to a pioneer family, his father homesteaded at Buffalo Bluff in Putnam County, Florida. He resided in Jacksonville forty years and was employed as a railway mail clerk. He moved to Flagler Beach in May 1947 after his retirement. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of the Bunnell Masonic Lodge and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Flagler Beach.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. W. F. Oddy, from Palatka, Rev. John Wheeler of Daytona Beach, and Rev. Dallas Pulliam officiating. Masonic Rites followed at Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were Masonic brothers William Butex, Clarence Shultz, George Wickline, C. O. Magee, Clarence Duncan and T. Kolhaas. Haigh-Brooks, Daytona Beach were in charge.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gladine Chalfinch, Flagler Beach, one sister, Mrs. Elvira Quigley, Jacksonville; one niece, Mrs. Lee Bowles, Jacksonville, and one nephew, Thomas Quigley, New York City.

Relatives from Jacksonville who attended the funeral were Mr. Calfinch’s sister, Mrs. Elvira Quigley, his niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bowles, Mrs. Chalfinch’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Stark, Mrs. Chalfinch’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Slaughter, and Mrs. Chalfinch’s niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McClure.
