Roderick “Berga” Chambers

Roderick “Berga” Chambers, 85, a resident of Palm Coast passed away on February 1, 2020 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. He was born on July 11, 1934 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies to the late Arthur Chambers and Clarice Rochester.

Rod was a graduate of Kingston Technical High School and earned a certificate from the Royal Society of Arts. In 1967 he and his family immigrated to Queens, New York where he worked as a banker for Manufacturers Hanover Bank that later merged with Chemical Bank until his time of retirement in 1994.

He then moved to Apopka, Florida and in 2002 he moved to Palm Coast, Florida. Rod then married his second wife, Vera and together they started on an incredible journey.

Rod was a member of Palm Coast United Methodist Church where he was active in the choir; he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Rod loved to travel especially cruising, cooking, tending to his beautiful garden and entertaining where he was always the life of the party. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years Vera; children, Karen Smith, Andrea Chambers; step-children, Dirk Charlton, Michelle Charlton; grandchildren, Lydia Smith, Jamilah Smith, Tarik Smith; step-grandchild, Jailyn Charlton.

Donations in his memory may be made to Palm Coast United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, 10:00AM at the Palm Coast United Methodist Church. Friends may gather at 9:00AM for the viewing until time of the service. The repast will immediately follow the service in the Palm Coast UMC Fellowship Hall. Afterwards the Interment follows at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
