PALM COAST -- John Joseph Cherit, 77, of Selma Trail, a retired self employed truck driver, died Monday at home. 

Mr. Cherit, who served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, was born in Montsville, Pa. He moved to this area in 1977 from Whitehall, Pa. He enjoyed nature and animals. 

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nancy; a son, John Jr., Satsuma; three daughters, Jacqueline Williams, Palm Coast, Karen Leonard, Bountiful, Pa., and Anne Gower, Danielsville, Pa.; two sisters, Betty Gona, Great Neck, N.Y., and Margaret Hydek, Long Island; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
