Obituary of Evelyn A. Clickard

Evelyn Ann Clickard, devoted mother, wife and American history philanthropist, died this week in Palm Coast, Florida at the age of 85. The community remembers her tireless work to preserve knowledge and appreciation of early Florida history, supporting under-privileged public-school education, commemoration of veterans, and contributing to international aid projects – particularly those benefiting children.

Evelyn was born in Wayne County, Michigan to Charles Franklin & Thelma Elizabeth Parliament on October 6th, 1937. She attended Allen Park High School where she met her future husband, Gary. She was mother to two daughters, Carrie Lee and Kyle Sue. In addition to rearing her own children, she became active in supporting and leading youth arts engagement, primarily through high school marching bands, as co-director of Troubador drum & bugle corps and as a an parent administrator for the Racine, Wisconsin DCI Kilts.

Later in life, Evelyn’s interests expanded into American history and local activism to preserve/recognize historic sites. Much of her work involved member and leadership activities with the Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United States Daughters of 1812. Equaling her commitment to history was her devotion to her faith and the Presbyterian Church, serving over several years as Deacon, Elder and a founder of the Navajo Nation Mission “Water to Homes”. She was also a driving force behind aid initiatives providing for basic needs of children below the poverty line abroad.

Evelyn’s visitation and memorial service will be held from 9-11 am on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 W. Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, FL.

She is survived by her husband, Gary George Clickard, her daughter, Kyle Sue Cannons, her grandson Brent Cary James Clickard, and her teacup poodle, Pandora.
