DaCOSTA, Elias

Elias F. DaCosta, 75 of Palm Coast, died March 1, 2014 at Florida Hospital Flagler. Mr. DaCosta was born March 19, 1938 in Lomba da Maia, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, the son of Antonio and Francisca Fontes DaCosta. He came to the United States in 1956 moving to Newark, NJ. Mr. DaCosta started working in the construction business as a laborer, then as a heavy equipment operator, and retiring in the late 1990’s. He and his wife moved to Palm Coast in January of 1999. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, and the Portuguese American Culture Center. Mr. DaCosta enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Jorgina Moniz, whom he married July 4, 1962. Three daughters, Joann (Robert) Jackson of Jackson, NJ., Marlene (Rosario) Marino of Leonardo, NJ., and Claudette (Scott) O’Dowd of Palm Coast, FL; a son, Robert Costa of Port Orange FL; a sister, Joanna Barbosa of Deltona FL, and a brother Serafim Costa of Newnan, Georgia. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Desiree Jackson, Lauren (Christian) Wenner, Emily Marino, Hayley Marino, Avery O’Dowd and Devin O’Dowd.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, March 6th from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 7th at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Parkway in Palm Coast, where family and friends will be received from 10:00-11:00 AM . Interment will follow at the Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
