John D. Darby, 89 of Palm Coast, died February 1, 2013 at the Grand Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Darby was born August 18, 1923 in Tipperary, Iowa, the son of William and Elizabeth Marshall Darby.

He graduated high school in Iowa and enlisted United States Navy two weeks after the Pearl Harbor bombing. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for General Electric as a foreman, retiring after 40 years. Mr. Darby was a Mason, and a member of the Palm Coast VFW.

His wife of 57 years, the former Marion Louise Swanson, whom he married on January 19, 1946, died July 15, 2003.

He leaves his son, Richard (Mary Ann) Darby of Palm Coast, two grandchildren, James (Maureen) Darby of Prospect Park, PA, and Kimberly Darby of Palm Coast; eight great-grandchildren, James, Jessica, Megan, Anna, Amanda, Emily, Brandon and Kaitlyn.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Judd and two brothers, William and Earl Darby.

Private graveside services will be held at the Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are in the trust and care of the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home in Flagler Beach.
