James "Jimmy" Henderson Dawson left the surly bounds of Earth to be with his Lord and into our Great Creator's Arms on March 7, 2013 at Florida Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 26, 1923 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to George Henderson Doss and Senna Tucker Doss.

Jimmy was married to his sweetheart of 69 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Durrance Dawson, a member of one of the Pioneer families of Flagler County. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a man with strong convictions, a caring heart, and a gentle spirit. He liked dancing to “Blue Suede Shoes”, telling jokes, making people laugh but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Jimmy loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the Lehigh Fish and Hunt Club where he was affectionately referred to as "Daddy Dawson" and the best turkey hunter in the Club. He has passed on his hunting talents to succeeding generations.

Being a member of the Greatest Generation ", in the mid-50’s, he once drove 20 miles back
to a gas station after being given too much change to return the money. James joined the Army in 1942 where he served as a paratrooper in the  All American" 82nd Airborne under General George Patton. While serving, he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Bronze Star Ribbon and the Good Conduct WWII Victory Medal.

After the War, He worked as an overhead crane operator for Lehigh Portland Cement Company in Flagler. When Lehigh was closed, he became a member of the Operating Engineers as a heavy machinery engineer helping to construct Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World.

James is preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Carl and Thomas, son-in-law Roy Weldon Likins, Great Granddaughters Katherine Faith and Mary Grace Klinkenberg.

Besides his loving wife, Liz, he is survived by his daughter Jamesene Elizabeth "Jamie" Dawson Likins, granddaughters Debbie Likins Smith-Meck (Matthew), Wendi Likins Klinkenberg (John), Robert “Red” Mock II and Aimee Likins Mock; Great Grandchildren Kyle Glenn and Jacquelyn Nicole Finch; Matthew Alexander Jude and Madison McKenzie Smith-Meck; John Michael, Matthew Weldon, Joseph William and Kayla Elizabeth Klinkenberg, Robert Carl Mock III, and Leah Rose Mock; Great-Great Granddaughter Karli McKenna Finch, and great-great-niece Sheena Allman McMahon (Sean).

James was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Viewing will be Monday, March 11, from 5-8 pm at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home.

A funeral service will held on Tuesday March 12 at 10am at the funeral home and interment to follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
