Phynis Elizabeth (Liz) Durrance Dawson, 94 years young, left the surly bounds of earth to be with her Lord and into her Great Creator's arms on Thursday, 28th of September at Hospice Home with her loving family at her side.
She was preceded in death by her sweetheart and husband of 69 years in 2013, James Henderson Dawson.
Born on Friday the 13th of August in 1923 in Bunnell, Florida, she was the 13th child of Florida and Flagler Pioneer family of Arthur Washington Durrance and Rosa Leah Brooks Durrance.
Liz was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a woman with strong convictions, a caring heart, and well known for her "country cooking" and beautiful voice in the choir of her High School performing at Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends and gardening.
After graduating from Bunnell High School, marriage and World War II, she was an Executive Secretary for Lehigh Portland Cement Company. Following the closing of Lehigh, she traveled around the United States with her husband, Jimmy, who was a member of the Operating Engineers where he helped construct Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World.
Liz was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Joseph E. Johnston Chapter 2317 of Bunnell, oldest membership in the VFW Auxiliary 8696 and during her daughter's high school years, was Secretary of the Bunnell High School Band Parents Association for "The Biggest Little Band in Dixie".
Liz is preceded in death by her parents, her twelve siblings, son-in-law Roy Weldon Likins, and Great Granddaughters Katherine Faith and Mary Grace Klinkenberg.
She is survived by her only child, daughter Jamesene Elizabeth "Jamie" Dawson Likins; granddaughters Debra Likins Smith-Meck (Matthew), Wendi Likins Klinkenberg (John), and Aimee Likins Mock; (Robert "Red" Mock II); Great Grandchildren Kyle Glenn and Jacquelyn Nicole Finch; Matthew Alexander Jude and Madison MacKenzie Smith-Meck; John Michael, Matthew Weldon, Joseph William and Kayla Elizabeth Klinkenberg, Robert Carl Mock III, and Leah Rose Mock; Great-Great Grandchildren: Karli McKenna, Kaybrie Collette and Khloe Brielle Finch; Jameson Jacobi and Toren Judah Floyd; Elizabeth Hope and Knox Atlas Klinkenberg and great-great-niece Sheena Allman McMahon (Sean).
Pall bearers will be her grandsons; John Michael, Matthew and Joseph Klinkenberg; Kyle Finch and "A.J." Smith-Meck and son by marriage John P. Klinkenberg. Honorary Pallbearers are Matthew Smith-Meck, Robert Mock II and Burt Madewell.
Viewing will be Monday, 2nd of October from 3-4 pm at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
