Bunnell - James Emmett Deen, 70, Supervisor of Registration for Flagler County for the past six years, died yesterday afternoon of a heart attack en route to Flagler Hospital in St Augustine.

He was born in Baxley, GA and came to the area 46 years ago where he engaged in the turpentine business.  Burial will be tomorrow at Hope Cemetery near Bunnell.  Garcia Funeral Home, St Augustine, is in charge.

He is survived by his widow and eight children:  Claude, Duane, Emmett, Jr., Stanley and Naomi Deen of Bunnell, J Lester Deen, Miami, Mrs. Thelma Walter, Philadelphia and Mrs. Francis Hosford, Eglin Field.  Eight sisters are survivors:  Mrs. Lillie Grant, Mrs. Arminda Harris, Mrs. Mattie Bennett of Jacksonville, Mrs. Kate Causey and Mrs. Ella Walters of Seville, and Mrs. Mary Lou Pickett, Winter Haven. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

J. EMMETT DEEN DIES SUDDENLY FRIDAY MORNING

J. Emmett Deen, 70 year old supervisor of registration in this county for the past four years, and nominee of the Democratic primary last May for the place again, died suddenly last Friday afternoon while being taken to Flagler hospital in St Augustine.

Mr. Deen, whose health was poor for many years, became more seriously ill Friday morning, and upon advice of Dr. J. E. Rose, here was started to the hospital.

He was born in Baxley, Ga. but has lived in what is now Flagler County for 46 years. He was engaged for many years in the turpentine and timber business.

Burial services were held at the grave side in Hope Cemetery Sunday afternoon with Rev. H. B. Murdock, pastor of the Bunnell Methodist Church, officiating.

Surviving are his wife, eight children, J. Lester Deen of Miami; Mrs. Thelma Waters of Philadelphia; Claude, Duane, James Emmett, Stanley and Naomi of Bunnell; and Frances Hosford of Elgin Field, Florida; eight sisters, Mrs. Lilly Grant, Mrs. Arminda Harris, Mrs. Alice Jennings, and Mrs. Nettie Bennett of Jacksonville; Mrs. Kate Causey, Mrs. Ella Walters and Mrs. Ethel Harris of Seville; Mrs. May Lou Pickett of Winter Haven, Florida.
