George W. Durrance, Flagler County's last Confederate War Veteran, died at 7:45 Monday morning at the Glendale Hospital in Palatka.

Mr. Durrance was 89 years of age and had led an active life until two weeks ago when he was struck by an automobile on U. S. Highway 1. He had been confined to the hospital since that time receiving treatment for injuries received in the accident. Complications, attributed to his age, set in several days ago causing his death.

Mr. Durrance was born in Clay County and later moved to San Mateo where he resided for a number of years before coming to Flagler County. He had resided in Flagler County for over 45 years.

Mr. Durrance was one of the Veterans who were entertained by the federal government at Gettysburg two years ago.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Annie Wickle, of Jacksonville; Mrs. Dora Ashley, of Daytona Beach; and Mrs. Eva Allen of Holly Hill. Also four Sons: Omega and Arthur of Bunnell; John of Flagler Beach, and Worrell of Miami. There also survive twenty-five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Hope Cemetery Wednesday afternoon with officials of the Mormon Church conducting the service. Arrangements were in charge of the McCabe Funeral Hone of St. Augustine.
