PALM COAST - John B. Emerson; 73, of Coventry Place, a detective for the New York City Police Department and an insurance fraud investigator for the state of New York before his retirement, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Mr. Emerson, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, was born in Winsboro, S.C., and came here in 1993 from Long Island, N.Y. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696, Afro-American Caribbean Club and the Jazz Club. Mr. Emerson enjoyed playing golf and tennis and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mildred: two daughters, Francesca Emerson, Palm Coast, and Caryl Emerson-Whittington, Lilburn, Ga.; and a sister, MaeCatherine Hooks, Passaic, N.J.
