Carol Lynda Emery was born in Lake City, Florida on December 31, 1951. She was the firstborn child of James Walter and Ruth Clegg Townsend. She passed into heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 17, 2022.

Carol Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ruth Townsend, and her grandson, Joseph DiMillo. She leaves behind her husband of 48 years, David Quentin Emery; her brother Jay Townsend; and her children, Mark and Leah Somers, Carrie Standiford, Jason and Erin Elixson, and Ryan and Audra Emery; her grandchildren, Josiah DiMillo, Lacey Somers, Caleb DiMillo, Lauren Somers, Daniel DiMillo, Eliana DiMillo, John Mark Somers, Emilia DiMillo, Quentin Elixson, Luke Somers, Celia Elixson, Micah Somers, Marianna DiMillo, Farrah Elixson, Elijah Somers, Autumn Emery, Jacob DiMillo, Noah Somers, Adalie Emery, Anna Belle Emery, and Ben Emery.

Carol Lynda treasured her role as Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, and she loved her Clegg and Townsend cousins dearly.

Carol Lynda lived the first two years of her life in Lake Butler, Florida, before her family moved to Haw Creek, where she lived almost her entire life. Her childhood in Haw Creek was a happy one, with all her Clegg cousins nearby, and her nearly constant presence in the home of the “Tucker girls”.

Carol Lynda graduated from Bunnell High School in 1969 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida. She began teaching at Bunnell Elementary and soon married Quentin Emery on January 19, 1974. Quentin and Carol Lynda were blessed with four children: Leah Ruth, Carrie Susanne, Erin Beth, and Ryan David. Carol Lynda spent her time raising her four children and managing the Emery household. She loved reading to her children and gifted books on birthdays and holidays. As a talented crafter and gardener, she made her home warm, beautiful, and welcoming. Friends described her as a wonderful lady who lived fully engaged for God and others. A strong Christian, she was thankful for her Savior, quick to ask forgiveness, and willing to serve in any way she could. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bunnell and served in many capacities: organist, pianist, VBS Director, and Youth Bible Study leader. Carol Lynda enjoyed hosting parties in her home and was known for her signature dishes and her holiday eggnog (her sister-in-law’s recipe). She was a talented pianist and organist, filling her home with hymns and classical piano pieces. She had a lovely alto voice and was always singing or humming.

In 1998, Carol Lynda earned her master’s degree from Stetson University and earned her license in marriage and family therapy. She spent many years helping others in her private practice until her early retirement. In her last years at home, she enjoyed her many grandchildren immensely. Carol Lynda was an avid collector. The Emery home is full of family photographs, egg cups, Cherished Teddies, Noah’s Ark, and Boyd Bears. She painted many beautiful folk art wood pieces when her children were small and sewed some of her girl’s dresses. She spent many years chauffeuring her children to their many activities and one year even had four kids in four different schools! Carol Lynda encouraged her children to do and be anything they wanted, but piano lessons and church were a must.

The family would like to thank Sara Cody, Carol Lynda’s dear cousin Brenda Akins, and the staff and administration at Grand Villa for their loving care of Carol Lynda during the last years of her life.
