Derek Van Horn Fowkes
Funeral services celebrating the life of Derek Van Horn Fowkes, 44, of Athens, Georgia and Palm Coast, Florida, who passed away after a sudden illness on Sunday, November 30, 2008, will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at 3:00 pm at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. S., Flagler Beach. His family will receive friends on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 2:00 pm until the 3:00 pm service time at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the service at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens, 511 Old Kings Rd. S., Flagler Beach.
Mr. Fowkes, who was a devoted father, loved gardening and coaching sports for his children’s teams and he built homes for the Habitat for Humanity in Palm Coast. Mr. Fowkes was a Developer and Builder in both Palm Coast and Athens, GA. Previously he had been a Regional S.E. President for Rural Metro Ambulance and a Vice President of Professional Ambulance and EMS Ventures in Gainesville, GA. He was a graduate of Brenau College, a division of the University of Georgia, Go Dawgs.
He is survived by his wife Laura Gausepohl Fowkes and his sons Miles and Blake Fowkes; his mother and father Barbara and Michael Gallagher of Palm Coast; his father and mother Leonard and Mary Lou Fowkes of Orlando; his grandfather Herbert Van Horn of Palm Coast; his sister and brother-in-law Christina and Michael Henson and their children Georgia, Julia, and Jared of Palm Coast; his brother Frank Fowkes of Orlando; his aunt and uncle Charles Bova and Margie Ankrom of Palm Coast, and a loving family of cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Derek to the Derek Van Horn Fowkes Memorial Fund benefiting his surviving children, Miles and Blake, First American Bank & Trust, PO Box 1688, Athens, Georgia 30603-1688.
