A funeral service celebrating the life of Lydia D. Hawkins, of Flagler Beach, will be held on Saturday (today), April 11, 2009; 3:00PM at the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road S., Flagler Beach. Interment to follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.

Lydia died April 8, 2009 at home after a long illness. Born on May 26, 1925 in Alma, Georgia, she was the daughter of Minnie Lee Dilbon and John Decoy Raulerson. She pursued a nursing career in Georgia and Norfolk, Virginia until she married Devon Earl Hawkins of Mishawaka, Indiana in 1943. They lived for brief periods in Norfolk, Miami, Jacksonville and Ogden, Utah before settling in South Bend, Indiana for forty years.

She raised her two daughters and was employed by Sears for 16 yrs before retirement with her husband to Flagler Beach in 1983. Preceding and during her retirement she was a member of #598 Order of Eastern Star in Osceola, Indiana; Campfire Assoc; P.T. A. and the D.A.V.A. She also volunteered for R.S.V.P., the Council on Aging and nursing home visitations. She was a member of Church of God in Daytona Beach. She was predeceased in 1999 by her beloved husband, Devon E. Hawkins.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Hawkins of Flagler Beach; Pamela and her husband, Peter Hartwich of Jacksonville; granddaughters, Jennifer and April Hartwich of Jacksonville; sisters-in-law, Ethel Raulerson of Jacksonville and Leona Faulkner of Mishawaka, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Halifax Health Hospice and Flagler emergency services personnel for their recent care and assistance.
